We must act NOW

Why Lower the Voting Age

16-year olds often pay taxes, can make medical decisions, are eligible to drive, and can vote in political party leadership races. Research in other countries has shown lowering the voting age improves democratic engagement.

Bill C-210

NDP MP Taylor Bachrach has proposed legislation that will lower the voting age to 16, with multiparty support. It is up for its first vote in late September, and we need to apply pressure to make sure it passes.

We Have Momentum

We have a minority government in Canada which forces political parties to communicate and compromise. Young people are currently taking the government to court to lower the voting age, and Senator Marilou McPhedran is moving a similar bill in the Senate.
